Test your Danish level (free)

A short free Danish test: listen, read and choose, and see roughly which level and module you are at, with a tip for what to learn next.

Not sure where you are in Danish? This free level test takes about ten minutes. You read, listen and choose, and it climbs one level at a time, from A1 to C1, until the questions get too hard. At the end you see your level, which language school module and test it matches, and where to start in the free course.

In short

  • Time: about 10 minutes. No clock, no sign-up.
  • How: six questions per level: choose the missing word, read a short text, or listen to a sentence and choose what it means.
  • Levels: A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1, the levels of the Common European Framework (CEFR) that the Danish tests use.
  • Result: your estimated level, the module and test it matches, and where to start.
  • Good to know: it is a quick estimate, not an official test. The language school places you with its own test.

How the test works

You start at A1. Get at least four of the six questions right, and the next level opens. When a level is too hard, the test stops, and the level before it is your result. If you are close to the next one, you get a plus: A2+ means that you are well on your way to B1.

The listening questions use your browser’s Danish voice and only play when you press play. If your browser has no Danish voice, you see the sentence instead.

What the levels mean

  • A1: you understand and use everyday words and simple sentences about yourself. Module 1 at the language school, modultest 3.1.
  • A2: you manage simple conversations and read short everyday texts such as notices and messages. Module 2, modultest 3.2. Module 3 (modultest 3.3) is A2+.
  • B1: you follow the main points of clear texts and can explain and argue about work and everyday life. Module 4, modultest 3.4.
  • B2: you understand complex texts and talk fluently about society. That is Prøve i Dansk 3, the level for citizenship.
  • C1: you understand demanding academic texts and express yourself precisely. That is Studieprøven, for studying at a Danish university.
